Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent out an email Monday inviting colleagues to a “bipartisan congressional prayer service,” as a tribute to the victims of Saturday’s Tucson, Ariz. shooting that left six dead, many injured, and Ariz. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in critical condition.

“As members of Congress, we all hold events in our districts, interact openly and publicly with our constituents, and have dedicated staff members who act on our behalf when we cannot be there.  An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve; such acts of violence have no place in our society,” the email states.

The hour-long prayer service will take place Wednesday and is open to members of Congress and their spouses.

“As we attempt to comprehend this horrible event, it is important for members of Congress to gather together and pray for the health of our colleague, Representative Gabrielle Giffords, those who perished, and the other innocent victims who are still fighting for their lives,” the email states.

Boehner and Pelosi sent out another e-mail Monday regarding “Signing of the Book of Well Wishes & Book of Condolences,” an open event and tribute to the Ariz. victims.
