Is Michelle Rhee becoming a Republican darling?

In her post-D.C. Public Schools career, former Chancellor Michelle Rhee has had no trouble whatsoever attracting attention to her new education reform ventures. And she’s been getting the most attention from prominent elected Republicans.

Since leaving DCPS, Rhee has joined the transition team of new Florida Gov. Rick Scott (pictured) and has since agreed to continue on as an “informal adviser” to his administration. On Tuesday, she appeared at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s State of the State address.

“No one in America has been more clear that we must change our public education system,” Christie said from the podium. “Michelle, thanks for coming today, and I want you to count New Jersey among those who are finally putting our students first.”

Other than Paul Vallas (head of New Orleans schools), the only Dem I know making sense right now. She won’t be a Republican because she’s one of those people who is a victim of the hype that in order to be a caring, compassionate person, you must be on the Left. At least she’s open-minded enough to put the kids ahead of her ideology. That’s good enough for me.

The government monopoly over public eduction, plus the money and power of the teacher’s unions, are a mighty foe. Michelle will need all the help she can get. We just need one state to crack, and legislate full parental choice for their children’s education. It will happen, and Michelle will be leading the charge.

    She’s my favorite Michelle.

Com’on, Ms. Rhee. Join the Dark Side, continue to push real reform for education and be our next female Darth Vader. Dick Chaney needs a side-kick.

I’m not sure she’s aligned with either party. perhaps democrat because of her former position in D.C. but I’ve not heard her mention party affiliation.
She is supported by those who want to break up the urban teachers unions, and that support is from conservatives.

Well, she is a common sense Democrat so I am OK with her becoming a Republican darling.

A common sense democrat is a whole lot better than the radical left we’ve seen in our public education system. I do admire her for taking a stand and producing results but I think her noble goal is to repair a broken school system. A better solution would be to get the government entirely out of the education monopoly they’ve created.
