A 71-year-old Gloucester woman will be tried for bigamy in Isle of Wight Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Shirley Smith-Smart, who is also known in court records as Shirley Inez Cassara, will also stand trial on perjury and forgery charges. All of the charges stem from her Dec. 23, 2004, marriage to Elden Bowen at the Isle of Wight Wedding Chapel. Bowen was the eighth of Smith-Smart’s 10 husbands and legally, the two are still married.
