Is Comcast already beginning to re-shape MSNBC?

MSNBC host Keith Olbermann’s surprise announcement on Friday that he will be leaving the network effective immediately came days following the Federal Communication Commission’s decision to allow the acquisition of NBC Universal by Comcast. The coincidence has led many commentators to speculate a connection.

Noel Sheppard of the conservative online publication NewsBusters wrote that he doesn’t believe the decision to be of coincidental timing.

Sheppard wrote, “Because its exclusive business is media — Comcast is now the largest cable and home internet provider in the nation as well as a growing force in television broadcasting — it might be far more concerned about the political image of MSNBC than GE was.”

Forbes blogger Jeff Bercovici wrote that Comcast is “an intrinsically conservative corporation, it’s not overly friendly to congenital boat-rockers like Olbermann.”

“My hunch: There’s a lot more to this story, and we’ll be hearing it very soon,” wrote Bercovinci.

Hollywood news publication TMZ wrote that “Keith Olbermann was fired by MSNBC, sources tell TMZ, and we’re told it had everything to do with Comcast’s acquisition of NBC.” The sources were unnamed and no further information was provided.

Comcast has denied playing any role in the Olbermann decision.

Sena Fitzmaurice, a spokesperson for Comcast, released a statement that said, “Comcast has not closed the transaction for NBC Universal and has no operational control at any of its properties including MSNBC.”

“We pledged from the day the deal was announced that we would not interfere with NBC Universal’s news operations. We have not and we will not,” wrote Fitzmaurice.

After close to six years of struggling to compete with Rush Limbaugh and Conservative talk radio, and coming just two days after Scott Brown’s shocking victory over Kennedyism in Massachusetts, the Air America Radio Network announced its dissolution and demise. The date was January 21, 2010 exactly one year to the very day when Keith Olbermann would call it quits on MSNBC. Amazingly, Air America began broadcasting on March 31, 2004 with the Al Franken Show. Amazing beacuse Air America’s launch date fell on the first anniversary of Olbermann’s roll out of Countdown…..

Point of view? If you believe he was the opposite point of view you need your head examined and you need to reevaluate yourself. Your upbringing or situation and know this guy was so many ways from Sunday over the top. He lacked talent and honesty.

This flock of loonies needs fair treatment for which there is CNN.

Hopefully Comcast will turn out to be a conservatively run organization which will not stand for “lean forward” and mr. ed’s rants (whinny) or mr. maddow’s cursing realtors.

Matthews and O’Donnell are bright but can’t help themselves. They she be kept on and some centrist or conservative new blood brought in.

My thinking is that mr.ed and mr.maddow will leave when they see the writing on the wall. After all it was Zucker the red who covered their butts and he is history.

I think the NBC News division is following and unspoken and unwritten script. Some one is trying to make nice and they decided that Mr. Olbermann needed to go. There are only 24 hours in the day and only even less in “Prime Time” they may have needed his time slot for something different and he was unwilling to change his format and so he was gone. He might also have been on a short leash after his political f aux pa and maybe there were just things they were unwilling to continue to deal with.

I don’t care about the speculation or rumors of why he’s gone…I’m just glad he’s gone…wished he’d take Special Ed, Tingles, Madcow and all of Morning Schnoo’s crew with him…that Funny Farm is impossible to watch if you have a brain that works at room temp.

    Good Riddance to Rotten Rubbage.

I am not sad but I am also not dancing for joy. Because when there is no opposite point of view no matter how far out it is you will never know when you have crossed your own line. We need people like Mr. Olbermann to know if what we are listening to in our circle of friends is fair and “balanced”.

God created difference so you would learn what truth is. He allowed evil to know what good looks like because without difference you would not know anything but robot thinking, we have free will and that saddens our God but he is also heartened when we follow his words and make it our life’s discipline.

5 million self aggrandizing, lying, and chattering leftist heads make it abundantly clear that Olbermann was redundant.

Trust me the left wing media is jumping up and down for joy that he’s gone too. The guy was sucking all the Nitrous out of their balloon.

I know we take it for granted but conservative media is by far still the alternative not the mainstream. Fox News is #1 on CABLE not network. The liberals still own the media they don’t need Keith, but he would not have lost his job but for the fact that he was a Diva and an Asshole to all the wrong people.

Talk about a lack of social prowess, this guy took the cake.

If you feel you need a counterpoint to ‘if what we are listening to in our circle of friends is fair and “balanced”’, you need only look as far as the MSM. If you are looking to Olbermann to provide that counterpoint you are fooling yourself.

The kind of hate and misinformation that Olbermann spewed on a daily basis will not be missed and MSNBC lost what little credibility they had as a news source because of it.

It’s a sad statement of truth that the man had even 1 million viewers each night. Most reasonable, knowledgeable people would shut his BS off in the first 5 minutes of watching (although I often watched just to view the train wreck each night), yet he still had loyal viewers who believe his crap. That is simply scary.
