End of an era: Final ‘Oprah’ episode to air on May 25

Oprah Winfrey has set a date for the final episode of her show, reports People Magazine. After 25 years on the air, the last episode is scheduled for May 25.

Although the show has recently been airing reruns, new shows will be returning on April 7. “Hard at work planning the final shows—can’t wait to share w/ u all!” Winfrey tweeted last week.

Of course, Winfrey, 57, will not be slowing down. She still has her new cable station, the Oprah Winfrey Network, to run, and that could prove to be a difficult task.

Winfrey’s OWN network had to reshuffle its scheduling just two months after launching in January, reported Business Insider, because advertisers were worried about its low ratings. The Network’s only hit show, ‘Behind the Scenes,’ follows the production of the Oprah Winfrey Show in its 25th and final season.

Due to the Network’s lagging ratings, however, TV by the Numbers speculates that Winfrey might continue her talk show on her own Network once she is contractually allowed to do so. If she does not continue “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” OWN will have to find a replacement for ‘Behind the Scenes,’ in order to boost ratings.
