Some very good TV was had this morning when Donald Trump appeared on MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown” with Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie.

“I am embracing the [birther] issue, and I’m proud of the issue. I think somebody has to embrace it,” Trump said during what was at times, a heated exchange.

“I don’t like the name ‘birther’,” Trump added, “because I think it’s very unfair and derogatory to a lot of good people who happen to think that there’s a possibility that this man was not born in this country. …And if that were true, it would be the greatest scam in the history of this country.”

“I feel that there is certainly a chance that he was not born in this country,” Trump added.

Trump also sought to blame the media for the controversy, saying: “Look at the first question you asked me — it’s about the birther.  Why don’t you ask me about China?”

NBC’s Chuck Todd pushed back, asking Trump: “Do you really believe that the Clinton machine — circa 2007 — actually didn’t spend some time looking into this?”

Trump and Todd also clashed over whether or not Obama had issued a birth certificate, and whether or not Trump had ever declared bankruptcy.
