The Republican National Committee announced Tuesday that it raised slightly more than $7 million in March, finishing the month with $3.2 million in cash on hand and $19.8 million in debt from the 2010 election cycle.

The committee touted its first-quarter major donor total, highlighting the fact that it raised $3.4 million from contributors who gave more than $15,000.

The fundraising news came at the same time as the announcement that the RNC has hired Angela Meyers to serve as its new finance director.

Meyers was hired away from the same position at the Republican Governors Association and would appear to fit new RNC Chairman Reince Priebus’ focus on reinvigorating his committee’s major donor fundraising program.
