Silencing rumors that she had plastic surgery, “Dancing With the Stars” finalist Bristol Palin explained to Us Weekly that she got corrective jaw surgery “for medical reasons.”

In response to those who said the 20-year-old probably underwent surgery to have a thinner face, Palin told the magazine, “Yes, it improved the way I look, but this surgery was necessary for medical reasons.”

According to the Associated Press, Palin had the procedure to realign her jaw and teeth. Growing up, the Candies Foundation spokeswoman wore braces and a device to help correct her overbite. Palin said her dentist warned that she’d eventually need surgery for the problem.

“I look older, more mature and don’t have as much of a chubby little baby face,” she told the publication, which hits newsstands on May 23.

Palin cast down claims that she had a cosmetic surgery, adding that she’d only go forward with such a procedure if it were absolutely necessary.

“I wouldn’t get plastic surgery unless I got in an accident or something terrible and got disfigured,” Palin told Us Weekly.

Aside from the buzz around her appearance, Palin has most recently made news for scoring her own reality television series for BIO Channel.

The show, which is scheduled to air later this year, will follow Palin’s move from Alaska to sunny Los Angeles with her son, Tripp to work at a small charity while living with good friens, Chris and Kyle Massey.
