Former Speaker Newt Gingrich has received his fair share of criticism since announcing for president yesterday. But at least one conservative is punching back.
I asked Reagan historian Craig Shirley — who is now writing a biography of Newt Gingrich — about the attacks. Shirley’s take is:
First, the elites are always wrong. Not sometimes, not most of the time, but all of the time. They hated Reagan too, but the Gipper knew this only helped him with the voters. So for Gingrich to be attacked by the criminal class that passes for the intellegensia of America will only help him with conservative primary voters.
