Two top aides have resigned from Herman Cain’s presidential campaign.

The staffers are Matt Murphy, Cain’s New Hampshire campaign director, and Jim Zeiler, the campaign’s regional director, according to the Union-Leader. (CBS ignores Herman Cain’s performance in Iowa poll)

“There is no ill will toward Herman Cain,” Murphy told the newspaper. “There was a strategic difference and I left the campaign because of those differences. The differences involved the New Hampshire strategy and how much investment the campaign should put into New Hampshire.”

Zeiler told The Union-Leader that he “resigned last week to return to my home in Wisconsin.”

In an email exchange with The Daily Caller, Zeiler refused to comment, forwarding questions to the Cain campaign.

Cain, a former businessman who has never held elective office but who can boast of Tea Party support, has risen in the polls recently, including placing in the top three of a Des Moines Register poll of Iowa caucus voters.
