A new radio ad airing in Iowa is urging voters to support Texas Gov. Rick Perry as a write-in candidate at the August 13th Ames Straw poll.
Tuesday, the New York-based limited government group GrowPAC announced its support for a Perry presidency and began a campaign for him in the caucus state.
“We need a pro-growth upheaval in Washington. Rick Perry can bring the energy and backbone to get it done,” said GrowPAC chairman and Wall Street economist David Malpass. The Governor’s fed up with big-government overreach, his book and his speeches are full of details about how careful decision-making based on the tenth amendment can help restore freedom and security. We need a presidential candidate who can win and reverse the big-government takeover of health care and the economy.”
Perry has yet to announce a run; while his name will not be on the Ames ballot, a write-in option will.
Unaffiliated Perry supporters have already started campaigning for the nationally popular governor. While he has not formally announced, Perry has expressed interest in jumping into the fray.
“I’m not ready to tell you that I’m ready to announce that I’m in,” Perry told the Des Moines Register. “But I’m getting more and more comfortable every day that this is what I’ve been called to do. This is what America needs.”
“He knows that the problems go far beyond debt limits and spending cuts and into the core of small business job creation,” added Malpass. “Washington’s wasteful spending, uncontrolled regulation, and constant thirst for more taxes are weakening our economy and mortgaging our children’s future. Rick Perry understands that, can stop it, and should be encouraged to run for President.”
