Steve Forbes, the free market icon who twice ran for the Republican nomination for president, has written Senator Orrin Hatch, telling him “it is a privilege to endorse your reelection effort next year.”

In a letter obtained by The Daily Caller, dated August 11, 2011, Forbes praised Hatch’s past efforts, recalling when he “courageously battled” against legislation pushed by “Big Labor.”

But Forbes also looked to the future, telling Hatch: “Should you prevail next year, you would become Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. You would be a central figure in shaping historic legislation to throw out the current horror of a tax code and replace it with something that is simple, pro growth, and understandable to all Americans.

“You will also be at the center of the movement to repeal Obamacare,” Forbes added.

And then, he ended with this: “Other reasons I am delighted to endorse you are that you are a good family man and a nice guy!”

Forbes’ endorsement is the latest blow to the efforts to oust Hatch. It’s a symbolic defeat; Forbes is a Board Member of the Freedomworks Foundation Board. (Freedomworks, of course, has been leading the effort to oust Hatch.)
