Stocks struggled for direction following a lower open Thursday after investors were disappointed by the weekly jobless claims report that showed a gain, while trade deficit rose less than expected.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened lower, led by BofA and Boeing, after snapping a three-day losing streak in the previous session.
