Vehicle in fatal collision tied to Swiss embassy

WASHINGTON — The sport utility vehicle that struck and killed a 64-year-old pedestrian in Northwest D.C. last week is registered to the Swiss embassy, and the driver may have been on his cellphone at the time of the accident, WTOP has learned.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. last Thursday in the 3100 block of Connecticut Avenue NW, near the National Zoo. According to a Metropolitan Police Department report on the incident, Kamal Mortada was driving a white Toyota Highlander when it struck Trudith Rishikof while she was in a designated crosswalk, crossing with the signal.
