Conservative activist Apostle Claver Kamau-Imani, founder and chairman of Raging Elephants, told the Daily Caller that abortion in the United States amounts to “genocide … of African American babies.” And he sent liberals on MSNBC into fits of horror Wednesday after he spoke to a Houston tea party rally and called Democrats “racists” and “the party of the Ku Klux Klan.”
“If anybody is racist it is the Democratic Party,” he said. “They’re the racists, the party of the Ku Klux Klan, the party of Jim Crow, the party of Bull Conner, the party of segregation.”
“They are the racists, not us. We’re their friends, we’re the emancipators, we’re the liberators, we’re the ones who believe in freedom.”
Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, another “Hardball” guest, was incredulous.
“I think he is absolutely out of date,” Brown told host Chris Matthews. “I cannot for the life of me understand why he would say that in the last 30 years — that in fact the Democratic Party has reflected any of the kind of characteristics he talked about as a party.”
“They have not, the Democratic Party controlled the South. Once Ronald Reagan started his Southern Strategy, the Democratic Party lost control of the South and that is because the Democratic Party was pursuing civil rights, civil liberties, equality, and all the things that are reflective of our US Constitution,” Brown added. He said that although southern Democrats fled the Democratic Party to join the Republicans, he does not think the GOP is racist.
Claver explained to The Daily Caller that his charges originate not only from the Democratic Party’s history, but also from its policy preferences to date — specifically on abortion and welfare.
“Today in America, on this Thursday, 1,800 African Americans are going to be aborted in the womb. Today!” Claver told TheDC. “Since Roe vs Wade in 1973 it is estimated that 20 million African American babies have been aborted. And going forward into the next quarter century, African Americans will be the only demographic of color that will not increase as a percentage of the overall American population.
“This is due to what I would call the genocide — I say that without hesitation — of African American babies.”
According to Claver, the biggest advocates for abortion are members of the Democratic Party, including members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Although Indiana Democratic Rep. Andre Carson has accused the Tea Party of wanting African Americans lynched, he said, it is the Democratic Party that actually endorses “killing black people.”
“Let’s talk about the programs of the Great Society, which the Democratic Party champions to this day. Well, they have done nothing but decimate the African American community and the black family,” Claver told TheDC.
“Since the imposition of the Great Society, what have we seen? We’ve seen an absolute rise in African American crime. We’ve seen the breakdown of the African American family. We’ve seen three-quarters of African American children being born out of wedlock, which is the number one linkage to poverty in America today: single parenthood, single mothers.”
Claver added that Great Society programs have put a drain on the economy, disproportionately hurting African Americans.
Herman Cain was the keynote speaker at the tea party event in Houston. Claver says that he has not endorsed the former pizza mogul.
“I very much am impressed and full of pride at what he is doing and what he is achieving,” he said, “but as an individual or as an organization we have not endorsed any presidential candidate.”
