A Daily Caller staffer received a letter via email Thursday purporting to be from the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s wife.
Written in the aftermath of her alleged husband’s death on Oct. 20, the letter pleaded for aid in return for a “great” reward.
“[P]lease my life is in big danger and I would like to use you as my contact to move a huge some [sic] of money and start living a free life in your country,” Gadhafi’s alleged widow wrote, “for I have been covering my self [sic] as a Muslim since he married me, which is our religious rights nobody has seen my face or known me except my children and himself and I thank Allah for this.”
“I cannot be identified by anybody in the world now that things has [sic] gone bad,” she added. “Please let me know your mind for I will reward you greatly cos [sic] we are talking of billions of pounds and dollars.”
Though the email address indicates the author’s name is Mariam, the letter is signed “Hassana.” A quick Google search discovered that Gadhafi did not have a wife named either Hassana or Mariam, leading some Daily Caller staffers to begin to question whether the letter was a scam rather than a genuine business proposition.
TheDC staffer in question did not suggest what he would do if the offer were legitimate and he found himself suddenly propelled from among the 99 percent to the much-maligned 1 percent.
