Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich repeatedly decried the use of negative campaigning, especially last night, when he blamed negative ads by rival Mitt Romney’s super PAC for his poor showing in the Iowa caucuses. Gingrich has vowed that neither he, nor anyone associated with him, would engage in that type of campaigning.

But that doesn’t mean that his super PAC can’t casually point out the negative things that other candidates have said about the former Massachusetts governor.

From the vault comes “A Tale of Two Mitts,” an ad put out by Sen. Jon McCain’s campaign in 2008 when he was battling Romney for the Republican nomination. Winning our Future, a super PAC supporting Gingrich, has posted it on the front page of its website.

The ad points out Romney’s varying position on abortion, the Second Amendment, and his own level of conservatism. Considering that McCain formally endorsed Romney Wednesday morning, Gingrich backers will find the timing delicious.
