CORAL SPRINGS, Fl. — The most exciting part of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s rally Sunday was the soul band that opened for him.
Mixing anti-Democratic Party and anti-Obama diatribes with soul classics, “Michael the black man” (as he introduced himself) and his band provided entertainment and smooth tunes both before and after Santorum spoke.
During his act, Michael Warns (“Michael the black man’s” real name, according to an associate) urged support for the Republican Party while comparing Democrats to slave masters .

When The Daily Caller caught up with Warns after Santorum’s speech, he expanded on his worldview.
“Republicans were the ones that freed the black man,” he said, before comparing Democrats to Nazis.
“Democrats were totally against us. They were the slave masters. Why in the hell would I vote — not one good, righteous Jewish would ever vote for any German from the Nazi Party … And no black man under any condition should work with any white man that’s a Democrat under no condition.”
To hammer home the point, Warns provided another analogy.
“You can’t give me a condition where a roach will work with a shoe when he knows it’s going to smash him or has smashed him,” he said.
From Miami, Warns said he and his band, the Boss, have performed at many tea party rallies. He explained that he is against President Obama because he “is the worst thing that ever happened to black people.”
Perhaps deciding that that statement didn’t quite encompass exactly how bad he believes President Obama really is, Warns later noted that Obama is actually “the worst thing that ever happened to America and the world.”
Warns said that he likes Santorum “because he believes in God, the Constitution.”
“He speaks out about it, everybody else is scared,” he said.
But when someone informed him that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is slated to appear at an event at the same location Wednesday, Warns expressed interest in performing if Gingrich asks. He explained that while he likes Santorum the best, he supports anyone running to defeat Obama.
“Well I can definitely tell you anybody but Obama, please God save us,” he said.
Asked why he dislikes Obama so much, Warns said it was “because he believes in socialism.”
Warns said he and his band were not asked to perform by the Santorum campaign, though every appearance seemed to suggest he was sanctioned by the event organizers to perform. Santorum’s campaign did not return an email request for comment by time of publication.
