Out with the old, in with the new (iPad)

Like clockwork, Apple is preparing to launch a successor to its popular iPad 2. The unveiling is expected in San Francisco in March, only a year after the iPad 2’s debut.

Apple, after all, always seems to outdo itself.

What kind of improvements can consumers expect?

CNET reported that the iPad 3 will “run with a faster chip, an improved graphics processor, and better resolution.”

According to TechRadar, the iPad 3 will feature a 2048×1536 Retina Display, an element consumers were hopefully anticipating in the iPad 2.

InformationWeek said the updated tablet will feature the Long Term Evolution wireless communcations standard. “There’s no excuse to leave this critical feature out. Most of the competition (HTC, Motorola, Samsung) already has LTE tablets for sale,” the magazine reported

TechRadar also said a source at one of Apple’s partners confirmed the speculation that Foxconn, Apple’s major manufacturing partner, started production of the new iPad 3 last month.

Apple does not comment on rumors and speculation, an Apple spokeswoman said.
