William Shatner sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss his one-man show, “Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It,” and his opinion about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s singing ability.
Shatner, best known for his role as Captain Kirk on “Star Trek,” is opening his show on Broadway on Valentine’s Day. He describes it as a “journey of discovery” where he asks questions about himself and his life.
“I’m going to be on stage to entertain you, to tell stories about my life that are funny, touching, insightful,” Shatner told Rolling Stone.
The show will include excerpts from “Has Been,” Shatner’s 2004 spoken-word album of song lyrics. The show finishes with “Real,” a song written for Shatner by Brad Paisley — including the line “I’m an entertainer, and that’s all.”
Shatner is not the only VIP making a name on the reciting-lyrics scene. Mitt Romney has become known for reciting patriotic song lyrics on the campaign trail. Shatner, however, is not a fan.
“Not only does he have no musicality in the speaking,” Shatner said, “his singing voice is a caterwaul.”
Shatner offered Romney some tips on reciting lyrics. “Have him get in touch with me,” he said.
