After Three Games, the Yankees Are Still Looking for a Win

Of all the openings the Yankees and their fans could have envisioned for the 2012 season, a three-game losing streak was probably one that few entertained.

But it happened, and it left the Yankees only too happy to put Florida behind them, and with it Tampa Bay Manager Joe Maddon’s infuriating infield shifts.

In part because of Maddon’s mad infield science, the Rays beat the Yankees, 3-0, on Sunday at Tropicana Field to complete the three-game sweep.

The only consolations for the Yankees came minutes after they left the stadium for their flight to Baltimore. In Detroit, the rival Boston Red Sox wasted two late leads in an 11-inning loss to the Detroit Tigers, making the Yankees and the Red Sox odd compatriots in the American League East cellar. The last time both teams started 0-3 was 1966.
