American Crossroads hits Obama’s ‘cool’ factor

Yesterday, I noted that Mitt Romney might be facing a coolness deficit. Based on the last 24 hours, I must have been on to something. There seems to be a real concern among Republicans that Obama will, in fact, become the Mac to Romney’s PC.

Never fear, though. Romney’s backers are out to turn what might be an Obama positive into a negative. Yesterday, the RNC seemed to push back against the narrative. And now, today, American Crossroads is out with this ad.

The message seems to be a sort of concession: If you want a cool “celebrity” president, go with Obama. But if you want a serious leader, pick Mitt.

Will it work? I’m not sure.

Being “cool” is an obviously superficial attribute. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t important. JFK, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton all oozed it. The appeal isn’t logical, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important…
