Buyers drive Wall Street higher

Stocks on Wall Street rose at the start of trading on Thursday, as a recent string of losing sessions sent investors looking for bargains.

Concerns over Europe’s sovereign debt crisis helped to spark declines in the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index for five of the past six sessions. But on Thursday, European shares shrugged off losses to rise about 0.5 percent.
