It’s not every day that $5,000 falls into your lap.

The average tip for waiters in America is between 15 and 20 percent. Try telling that to the waiter at D’Amico Italian Market in Houston: He got a $5,000 cash tip during Memorial Day Weekend.

Greg Rubar, an employee at the restaurant for 16 years, received the substantial sum from a generous couple who are his regular customers, Fox News reported.

Why the windfall?  Rubar says the customers knew his car was damaged in recent thunderstorms.  When they gave him the money they told him to use it to buy a car.

Rubar said he thanked the couple but didn’t look at the money until they left and he could take a private peek at the amount.  He says he knew it was $5,000 because “it was still wrapped, it still had the band on it from the bank.”
