House Speaker John Boehner announced a staff mix-up on Thursday, with his chief of staff becoming senior counselor and his deputy chief of staff becoming chief of staff.

Chief of Staff Barry Jackson will become Senior Counselor to the Speaker, and Mike Sommers, Deputy Chief of Staff for Leadership Operations, will assume his role.

According to a statement from Boehner’s office, Jackson will focus on strategic planning in his new role, while Sommers will manage the daily goings on of the office.

“As I noted last month, the decisions that lie ahead this year and early next year will have huge implications for our economy and the future of our country,” Boehner said in the statement.

“This transition is about preparing fully for the responsibilities ahead, even as we stay focused on the week-to-week House agenda of removing government barriers to job creation,” he added.
