Thomas Daigle of Milford, Mass. paid off his last mortgage payment with 800 pounds of pennies, according to CBS Boston.
Looking for a hobby “during those long rainy and snowy afternoons in Milford,” Daigle turned to coins, “counting his change and rolling his pennies.”
Wanting to make his last mortgage payment “memorable,” Daigle, with the help of his wife, collected and rolled pennies for 35 years. On April 24, coincidentally the same day of his and his wife’s wedding anniversary, the local shop owner delivered a pair of boxes, containing more than 62,000 pennies packaged in rolls of 50, to Milford Federal Savings and Loan Association reported Milford Daily News. “Milford Federal claimed every roll was counted perfectly.”
He told Milford Daily News, “It was something I wanted to do. I always follow through.”
Daigle knew how daunting his goal was, saying, “I was just praying I didn’t die first.”
