Jane Pitt, Brad Pitt’s mother, made headlines last week when she wrote to the editor of the Springfield News Leader in Missouri supporting presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

She called Romney “a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality.”

Apparently the backlash from supporters of President Barack Obama has been so harsh, Jane “has been scared into silence by the hate-filled, vulgar and even violent reaction to her public assertion,” WND reports.

She has even received criticism from media outlets who have referred to her as “homophobic” and said she “hates Obama and gay people,” Fox News reports.

Jon Voight, who is Angelina Jolie’s father and will soon be Brad’s father-in-law, is defending Jane’s position, telling Fox “good for her.”

A rep for Brad Pitt, an avid supporter of Obama, did not respond to Fox News for further comment, but Jolie is reportedly “mortified” and “has told Brad he must educate his mother, but Brad is too much of a mama’s boy.”
