Warner Brothers Studios has pulled the trailer for “Gangster Squad” from movie theaters over a scene in which a group of gunmen emerge from behind a screen and open fire in a crowded theater, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The studio, which also produced “The Dark Knight,” put out a statement after the shooting in Aurora, Colo. early Friday morning. “Warner Bros. is deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident,” they said in the statement. “We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”

The trailer for “Gangster Squad” has been online and in theaters for months. The noir film about a group of Los Angeles police officers who attempt to take down crime boss Mickey Cohen stars Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone. It is due to open Sept. 7 nationwide.
