1.) Joe Dumb Dumb — America’s mayor thinks Vice President Joe Biden is special. TheDC’s Jeff Poor reports:
“Joe Biden’s remarks Tuesday in Danville, Va. about the Republican presidential ticket returning some people to ‘chains’ upset a lot of Americans, but former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is advising voters not to take the vice president seriously … ‘I have never seen a vice president that has made as many mistakes, said as many stupid things. I mean, there’s a real fear if, God forbid, he ever had to be entrusted with the presidency, whether he really has the mental capacity to handle it.’ ‘I mean, this guy just isn’t bright. He’s never been bright. He isn’t bright. People think well, he just talks a little bit too much. Actually, he’s just not very smart.'”
You almost get the sense that Rudy doesn’t like Biden very much.
2.) No chicken for you — Davidson College seems to be jumping on the anti-Chick-fil-A bandwagon. TheDC’s Caroline May reports:
“Classes have yet to commence at Davidson College in North Carolina, but Chick-fil-A is already not welcome — at least for now. Students led a petition to ban the restaurant chain from monthly ‘After Midnight’ events — free food and entertainment events from midnight to 2 a.m. run by the Union Board, a student activities organization. The nighttime events sometimes feature Chick-fil-A sandwiches … Union Board president Adriana Nassar and vice president Cameron Joe claim they are trying to create an inclusive environment for the student body. ‘The Davidson College Union Board is firmly committed to building an inclusive community that serves each member of our student body,’ Nassar and Joe said in a joint statement Monday.”
Davidson is so inclusive they exclude tasty chicken.
3.) Obama bowled over — A high profile and influential Democrat is refusing to jump on the “Paul Ryan is a crazy extremist” bandwagon now that Ryan is on the GOP presidential ticket. TheDC’s Jamie Weinstein (ME!) reports:
“‘I like him,’ [Erskine] Bowles, the former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton and co-chairperson of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, told The Daily Caller in a phone interview. ‘I think he’s smart. I think he’s intellectually curious. I think he is honest, straightforward and sincere. And I think he does have a serious budget out there — it doesn’t mean I agree with it by any stretch of the imagination. But I’m not going to act like I don’t like him or that I don’t have some real respect for him.'”
But doesn’t Erskine know that Paul Ryan wants to kill little babies and push old ladies off cliffs?
4.) Special operation — A new group plans to run ads against Obama challenging his foreign policy prowess. Reuters reports:
“A group of former U.S. intelligence and Special Forces operatives is set to launch a media campaign, including TV ads, that scolds President Barack Obama for taking credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden and argues that high-level leaks are endangering American lives. Leaders of the group, the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc, say it is nonpartisan and unconnected to any political party or presidential campaign. It is registered as a so-called social welfare group, which means its primary purpose is to further the common good and its political activities should be secondary.”
5.) Poll of the Day: Americans think Ryan qualified to be prez — USA Today/Gallup Poll asks adults nationwide, “Based on what you know about Paul Ryan, do you think he is qualified to serve as president if it becomes necessary, or not?”: 48% said qualified, 29% said not qualified while 23% were unsure.
