Some say leftism is a secular religion. The following will not dissuade them from that opinion.
Healthier eating advocates have persuaded Los Angeles leaders to endorse meatless Mondays.
The City Council that had earlier declared war on trans-fats and fast-food restaurants voted 14-0 on Friday to adopt a resolution urging residents to pledge they won’t eat meat the first day of the week.
The Los Angeles Daily News says it doesn’t make Monday meat consumption illegal and police won’t be checking what you brought to work for lunch.
The resolution is simply designed to make residents healthier and reduce the impact on the environment.
Oh, is that all? I guess it’s okay, then. Because that’s the function of government: to lecture you about what to eat and what not to eat. No need to worry, everybody. This slope is not at all slippery.
The good news is that Los Angeles must be paradise on earth. The city council must’ve solved all the other problems. Yay!
In other news about governments meddling in their citizens’ eating habits, Denmark tried it for about a year and it didn’t work out so well. BBC:
The Danish government has said it intends to abolish a tax on foods which are high in saturated fats.
The measure, introduced a little over a year ago, was believed to be the world’s first so-called “fat tax”.
Foods containing more than 2.3% saturated fat – including dairy produce, meat and processed foods – were subject to the surcharge.
But authorities said the tax had inflated food prices and put Danish jobs at risk.
Wait, what? You mean there were unintended consequences? Even though their intentions were pure? When does that ever happen?
Not only is trying to legislate nutrition stupid and fascist on principle, but it’s usually based on bad science. It’s not the bacon and butter that gets you, it’s the waffles and syrup. If these geniuses really wanted everybody to slim down, they’d put a tax on grains. But what’s the one thing they keep telling you to shove into your face? Grains. “Healthy whole grains.” And then you get fat, so they tell to eat more grains. Repeat.
That’s how government works. It creates a problem and then presents itself as the only solution. And we keep falling for it.
Anyway, I’m sure Mondays are going to be busy at In-N-Out Burger. I’ve always wanted to try one of those, Animal Style. If I ever take a trip to LA, I’ll have to make sure to stay until Monday.
