Just days before prosecutors begin presenting evidence against “The Dark Knight Rises” Aurora theater shooter James Holmes, another multiple shooting has rocked Colorado’s third largest city.
Four people were killed in an Aurora townhouse early Saturday, including the gunman.

According to the Denver Post, police say a man shot and killed two men and a woman in the early morning hours. Another woman jumped from an upstairs window and escaped the townhouse to call police. She wasn’t injured.
None of those involved has been identified, and their relationship to each other is unknown.
The paper reports that there was an initial barrage of gunfire at approximately 3 a.m. Roads into the neighborhood were then shut down by police, and neighboring homes were evacuated. SWAT officers approached the townhouse behind an armored vehicle at approximately 8 a.m., at which point the suspect opened fire from a second-floor window.
Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect by using a bullhorn and speaking with him on the phone, but the Post quotes police spokeswoman Cassidee Carlson saying, “He was not making sense.”
Police fired tear gas through the front windows at approximately 8:20 a.m. and exchanged a final volley of gunfire with the suspect at 9 a.m., the paper reported. It’s not known whether the suspect took his own life or was killed by police.
The investigation is ongoing.
On Monday, a week-long preliminary hearing for James Holmes begins in Arapahoe District Court , here prosecutors will begin presenting evidence against the suspected Century 16 Theater shooter. Twelve people were killed and 70 injured on July 20 when a gunman opened fire at the midnight premier of “The Dark Knight Rises.” Holmes faces multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
