Illinois puts out awkward Valentine’s Day ticket ad for Penn State game

In what one would imagine was intended to be a heartwarming, harmless Valentine’s Day ticket discount ad featuring Fighting Illini men’s head basketball coach John Groce and his son, Illinois overlooked a key detail in its advertisement.

Its opponent.

Penn State is still limping over the blow the Jerry Sandusky-scandal dealt the university — and it will be for a while. To spread the news of a ticket sale for a game against a school which had recently lived through an investigation of a serial child molester, the Fighting Illini official website used a photograph of a man — one with an unfamiliar face to the vast majority of America — and a shirtless boy.
