Mark Wahlberg, who once claimed he could have prevented the 9/11 tragedy from happening had he been aboard one of the planes that day, passed up an opportunity to star in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” prequel because he couldn’t understand the script.

During a press junket for his latest movie for “Broken City,” the topic turned to Abrams:

“I remember [Abrams] asking me to play Captain Kirk’s father in ‘Star Trek’ and I tried to read the script and I couldn’t even — I didn’t understand the words or the dialogue or anything — and I said, ‘I couldn’t do this. I think you’re really talented, but I couldn’t do it.’ And then I saw the movie and I was like,’Holy shit he did a great job.’”

Some of us can prevent terrorism, own creatively named upscale burger restaurants — “Wahlburgers” — and star alongside CGI teddy bears, while others of us can comprehend science-fiction film scripts. Hey, we all have our strengths.
