The photograph below shows Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev immediately after his death at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Friday, April 19.

Law enforcement sources have told various news outlets, including entertainment blog TMZ, that the photograph is legitimate.  Dr. Richard Wolfe, the chief of the hospital’s emergency medicine department, told The Smoking Gun that the picture was likely taken by law enforcement officials after police took custody of the body, and not during any medical procedures.

Warning: this image is extremely graphic. Police sources say Tamerlan was run over by a stolen car his brother was driving, and may have suffered injuries after one of his explosive devices prematurely detonated during a shootout with law enforcement. Tamerlan also sustained gunshot wounds. The large cut in his chest appears to be a thorocotomy incision.
