Protesters booed the hearse carrying the body of Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev Thursday night at a funeral home in North Attleborough, Mass.
According to FOX 25, which filmed the scene, Tsarnaev’s family retrieved his body from the medical examiner, Thursday afternoon. His body was brought to the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home with a police escort.
Tsarnaev’s body was at the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home temporarily before being transported to another funeral home in Massachusetts, The Sun Chronicle reported.
“What happened is we were contacted by the family’s legal representation and by authorities and asked to transfer the remains temporarily to our facility until another funeral home in the state could take them,” Dyer-Lake funeral director Timothy Nay said Friday.
A family spokesman said that the family of the elder and dead of the two Tsarnaev bombers will not bring the body back to Russia, but rather be put in a Massachusetts cemetery according to CNN.
The Chronicle noted that another family was holding a wake at the time the bomber’s body was brought to a North Attleboro funeral home.
“For that family, we apologize,” Nay told the paper. “We had no idea there would be any media coverage of this.”
Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police on April 19, days after the Boston bombing that killed three and wounded over 260 others.
