President Barack Obama sure knew how to work the ladies back in the day.

Kelli Allman, a high school classmate of future president, discovered some old photos of “Barry Obama” at prom in 1979 and shared a snapshot of what he wrote in the back of her yearbook.

Apparently, Kelli was dating Barry’s friend Greg at the time, but that didn’t stop ol’ Barry from paying her the highest of compliments by calling her “foxy” and trying to steal her away for lunch dates over the summer, “even though Greg will be gone.”

Obama wrote (with surprisingly legible handwriting for a high school boy):

“Kelli, It has been so nice getting to know you this year. You are extremely sweet and foxy. I don’t know why Greg would want to spend any time with me at all! You really deserve better than clowns like us; you even laugh at my jokes! I hope we can keep in touch this summer, even though Greg will be gone. Call me and I’ll buy you lunch sometimes…Anyway, good luck in everything you do, and stay happy. Your friend, Love, Barry Obama.”

Hopefully, Greg didn’t leave Barry and Kelli alone together very often.

Allman told Time Magazine that Greg and the future leader of the free world were “like brothers.”

In the prom photos, Obama has a full-on afro and is sporting a white blazer, navy button-down and light blue tie. Obama, his date, Greg and Kelli are all wearing green leis.

Of prom night, Allman said: “It was a really fun, happy time. We were all cracking up, and everyone was smiling. It was pretty typical from there out as far as what happens at prom: the dinner and the dancing and the photos.” (And the lying to your parents about the after party and making out in cars.)
