Forward Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers was fined $75,000 last night for saying “no homo” during a post-game press conference.
Hibbert was answering a question about his defensive play against the Miami Heat’s LeBron James.
(Thats $70,000 more then LeBron was fined for his faking a fall — “flopping” — in Game 4.)
For good measure, Hibbert threw in an obscenity directed at the media as well.
The NBA acted swiftly and fined Hibbert for the remarks.
Hibbert responded in a statement released by the Pacers:
“I am apologizing for insensitive remarks made during the postgame press conference after our victory over Miami Saturday night. They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views. I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television. I apologize to those who I have offended, to our fans and to the Pacers’ organization.”
