London police have arrested two people after a “smash and grab” robbery Thursday evening at the high-end department store Selfridges.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said, “Police were called at approximately 8:30 p.m. to reports of a smash and grab inside commercial premises on Oxford Street.”
“It is not currently known how many people were involved. Two people were arrested nearby. Inquiries continue.”
Witnesses flocked to social media, with one reporting, “6 guys with guns + motorcycles just ran into @Selfridges smashed the counters grabbed jewelry and rode away.”
A photograph posted to Twitter showed two axes lying on the floor, while others show smashed glass left in the aftermath of the robbery.
