House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelsoi thinks the Democratic Party is coalescing around former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president in 2016.

In a Thursday interview with USA Today’s “Capitol Download” released Friday, the former Speaker stopped short of endorsing the former first lady but said that if she does run “she would win.”

“I’m not making endorsements right now, because I don’t think that’s appropriate,” Pelosi told “Capitol Download” host and USA Today Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page. “But I am gauging; I’m gauging. I’m encouraging people to think about it, so in case she asks us, we have something to say to her.”

When asked if she believes the Democratic Party is coalescing around Clinton, Pelosi responded “I think so, I think so. There’s a great deal of excitement about the prospect that she would run. I don’t understand why she wouldn’t.”

If Clinton were to become president, Pelosi said she “would be the best-prepared person to enter the White House in decades, in decades, with all due respect to her husband, present company and other presidents.”

Clinton has fared well in polling on her potential run. A Quinnipiac poll released last month found her topping potential Republican 2016 opponents. He likely Democratic primary rival, Vice President Joe Biden lost in the hypothetical match-ups.

This week, the “Ready for Hillary” PAC launched an online store, featuring T-shirts, buttons, hats, totes and bumper stickers for supporters to profess that they are “Ready” for Hillary.
