A Turkish man’s desire to quit smoking has pushed him past the patch, quitting cold turkey, and even trying hypnotics.

Ibrahim Yucel, a 42-year-old from Kutahya, made a cage to surround his head so that he couldn’t smoke. He fashioned the cage from 130 feet of copper wire and has his wife lock it around his head every morning so he cannot give into his temptation.

In a video posted to YouTube, Yucel said he has been unsuccessfully trying to quit smoking for years, especially after his father died from cancer. He has been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for the last 20 years. The idea for his cage was born from a motorcycle helmet.

Yucel makes a promise in the video to Allah and the Koran to never smoke again.

The cage prevents Yucel from getting his hands, and any cigarettes, anywhere near his face, so he must eat crackers during the day at work and drink water through a straw.

Yucel’s wife said that the cage was embarrassing at first, but she supports her husband because he really does want to stop smoking.
