San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith wasn’t about to let a game on Sunday ruin his thirsty Thursday. San Jose police arrested him on Friday morning on suspicion of a DUI, CSNBayArea.com reports.
The 2011 first round draft pick was involved in a single-vehicle accident and escaped the wreck injury-free. However, when police gave him a breathalyzer test, they found him over the limit and booked him into a Santa Clara County jail.
“The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith,” the 49ers said in a statement. “As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment.”
Police booked Smith on charges of DUI and possession of marijuana and held him on $5,250 bail.
Smith joins the class of over 40 NFL players who have been arrested in 2013.
