During a speech on the Senate floor early Wednesday morning, Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee expressed his desire to become a pirate.

“And then there is my favorite power: The power to grant letters of marque and reprisal,” Lee explained.
“A power that we too often fail to recognize. A power that I wish we would get to debate and discuss longer, more frequently in the United States Senate. A letter of marque and reprisal is of course effectively a hall pass issued by the United States Congress in the name of the United States government that entitles the bearer of that hall pass to be a pirate on the high seas.”
Lee then let the public in on his childhood dream.
“Regardless of how long I might serve in the United States Senate I hope one day to be granted a letter of marque and reprisal so that I could become a pirate as I longed to be as a child,” he said. “And you’re all invited to join me when I get that letter of marque and reprisal.”
