The infamous seal island near Cape Town, South Africa is a fixture in every Shark Week where the great whites leap out of the water to catch seals midair. One lucky seal, though, cleverly balanced on a great white’s nose to avoid being devoured.
Photographer David ‘Baz’ Jenkins snapped the impressive shots during a Great White Shark boat cruise, according to the New York Daily News.
“I have seen a shark lose a tooth on a decoy breach, before but never when attacking and killing a real seal,” Jenkins said. “The breaching sharks are amazing. The speed and agility just takes your breath away as they can explode from below without warning. This seal was one lucky pup.”
The seal managed to get away from the 5,000 pound predator.
