9 rockers you didn’t know were still alive [SLIDESHOW]

When you read the news of seventies heroin-chic rocker Lou Reed’s death on Sunday (may he rest in peace), your first thought was “Aw! How sad,” and your second thought was, “Wait! I didn’t even know that dude was still alive.” (Except now he’s not.)

Here are nine more rockers and rappers you didn’t know were still alive and (barely) kickin’.

  • Jerry Lee Lewis -- whose music you hear on the radio and always think that it's Elvis -- is alive and well at 78. He got married last year for the seventh time, after once marrying his 13-year-old cousin. (Photo by Getty Images)
  • Badass pop singer/rock and roller Chuck Berry is still with us at 87, with no particular place to go. IN 2011, he collapsed from exhaustion during a concert, but he lives in St. Louis and still wears awesome hats. (Photo by Marc Andrew Deley/Getty Images)
  • Courtney Love was maybe addicted to heroin during her pregnancy, and definitely addicted to it afterwards. After she killed Kurt Cobain or after he killed himself, Love was so addicted to heroin that her daughter was taken away from her. She tried to kill herself in 2004, and was forced to go to rehab in 2006. She claims to have been sober since 2007 and so she is still alive these days at 49. • Eighty-year-old country singer Willie Nelson is still alive and smoking lots of weed. His latest drug-related arrest was in 2010. He has had health problems for decades including a collapsed lung, but nothing can keep him down. (Photo: Getty)
  • Biz Markie, 49, wrote one of the best rap songs of all time, "Just A Friend," but you probably haven't heard from him since 1989. He's still around, performing from time to time and just being all-around awesome. (Photo: Getty)
  • James Newell Osterberg, Jr. -- also known as Iggy Pop -- was a heroin addict for many years, which is why he resembles Courtney Love these days. At 66, he is allegedly clean but definitely alive. (Photo by Juan Naharro Gimenez/Getty Images)
  • Despite coming from an absolutely insane family with a history of physical, mental, drug abuse and financial problems, Tito Jackson, 60, is alive and well. (Photo: Getty)
  • After years of heavy drug, alcohol abuse and partying that killed two of his bandmates, The Who lead singer Roger Daltrey, 69, is still with us. Daltrey still tours and is still rocking out. (Photo by Stuart C. Wilson/Getty Images)
  • Sinead O'Connor may have one hauntingly beautiful voice, but boy does she have some mental problems. O'Connor has been diagnosed as bipolar and has tried to kill herself at least once. But she's still alive and writing letters to Miley Cyrus telling her to stop acting like a "prostitute." (Photo credit should read FRED TANNEAU/AFP/Getty Images)
  • Ringo Starr, the least famous member of The Beatles, is still alive at 73 in case you were wondering, which you probably weren't. (Photo: Getty Images)
