Another day ending in “y,” another Obama lie.
President Barack Obama, who has portrayed himself as surprised by technical problems with the government’s new health care website, was briefed earlier this year on a consultant’s report that warned of possible widespread site failures, the White House said on Tuesday…
Bits and pieces have leaked out over the past few weeks about flaws in the site’s development process. Monday night, however, Republican lawmakers who oppose Obamacare released a report and recommendations prepared by McKinsey & Co at the government’s request in March 2013.
It cited, among other things, a rushed process that left insufficient time for testing and a focus by officials on getting people enrolled versus making the system work right…
Questioned about the McKinsey study, White House spokesman Jay Carney said the president had been briefed on it in the spring.
But he said the president’s familiarity with the report and recommendations did not contradict previous statements from the White House that described Obama as surprised by the scope of flaws in HealthCare.gov.
Of course not. Just because he claimed he didn’t know it was a trainwreck, that doesn’t mean he was lying about being specifically told it was a trainwreck. What does one thing even have to do with the other, you peasants??
I’ve been thinking about something Allahpundit at Hot Air wrote yesterday. It answers something that’s been bugging a lot of people all week: Why would Obama tell an increasingly obvious lie that makes him look so astonishingly incompetent? And why isn’t that a bigger deal?
One of the interesting things to me about the “what did Obama know and when” subplot to the Healthcare.gov Chernobyl is how little anyone on either side seems to care whether he’s telling the truth. He’s sworn up and down, as recently as last week during his big White House presser, that he had no idea how profound the site’s troubles were, which is almost impossible to believe…
Arguably it’s even worse if he really didn’t know; politicians lie all the time about their personal responsibility for policy failures, but the lack of oversight Obama’s been copping to is genuinely shocking on an agenda item this big. His thinking, I guess, it’s that it’s always better to be seen as well-meaning and negligent than incompetent and deceitful but I’m not sure that rule holds in a matter as momentous as remaking the health-care system.
Me neither. But trying to guess at Obama’s demented thought process is a mug’s game.
He thinks it makes him the lesser of two a-holes, I guess. And now that this lie has been exposed, on top of all his other lies — about everything — nobody’s shocked because by this point they know he’s a pathological liar. Even the people making excuses for him know it. Hell, especially the people making excuses for him. If he has to lie to the rubes to give lefties what they want, why shouldn’t he?
That’s why Jay Carney seethes at having to deny the obvious and defend the indefensible:
Why can’t we all just quit asking questions and accept that reality is whatever the White House says it is at any given moment?
President Barack Obama is both an incompetent and a liar. He screws everything up, and he lies about it before, during, and after. Just as I’ve been saying for the last five years.
Let the accusations of racism begin continue!
Update:
And you don't? Why not? MT @CBSEveningNews @nancycordes Republicans say http://t.co/LcJg7igArD report shows site's flaws were no surprise
