It’s so encouraging that the Associate Editor of Rare, Richard Thompson, knows how to use Google. Except apparently, the notion skipped his mind Monday when he ran a story broken by The Mirror at 6:18 a.m. some nine hours later at 3:08 p.m.
The story was about Vice President Joe Biden manhandling Amie Parnes, a White House reporter at a holiday party. Congratulations Thompson! That’s so rare of you. Not to mention dishonest.
Thompson wrote the story as if no one else ever had. Up by his smarmy picture they refer to the story as a “rare take.” Except there’s really nothing rare about it. “In a newly released photo..” he writes. Actually, no it wasn’t “released” it was obtained by The Daily Caller‘s Mirror Blog. Thompson never bother to report that the story was already reported by another publication. We understand it’s difficult when an outlet is in disarray and you lose all your editors. In mid-April, Cox News Media launched the site with Brett Decker at the helm and even held a fancy launch party at the Newseum. By August, he was gone along with the Deputy Editor and Op-ed Editor. Still, Thompson, it’s a good idea to attribute so you don’t look like you only read your own site, which, in this case, would be a poor media diet as today’s headlines consist of “Sorry, crazy cat women, your cats are just not that into you,” “Scientists study eating habits of bears in effort to solve obesity problem” and “For $100k you can own an original George Zimmerman painting.”
Beware Washington reporters. We’ve got a thief in our midst.
