A gym teacher in New York City has filed a lawsuit claiming that his lesbian boss at a posh private school sacked him because he is straight, happily married and has three children with his heterosexual wife.
Plaintiff Gregory Kenney taught physical education for 16 years at the Trinity School, a fancypants K-12 school on Manhattan’s Upper West Side where tuition is over $40,000 per kid per year.
Kenney, 50, was fired in June 2012, reports the New York Post. He asserts that gay athletic director Pat Krieger despised him for his “traditional family status” ever since she took over in 2009.
The discrimination suit claims that Krieger attempted to force Kenney to coach three sports — soccer, basketball and golf — even though his contract only mandated that he coach two teams.
When Coach Kenney protested about the burden of working extra nights and weekends because he wanted to spend more time with him wife and children, Krieger balked.
“We all make choices,” she said, according to the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Kenney’s complaint alleges, “a single, female teacher faced no scrutiny when she refused to coach a third season.”
The suit claims that Krieger ran off three other married coaches who have young kids and notes that Kenney’s replacement is a gay female.
The suit additionally claims that Krieger had asked Kenney not to attend social events because he is an older, straight male with a wife and kids and “routinely favored other single, younger females without children.”
“He had been doing this for so many years and he certainly did the job well or they would have gotten rid of him a long time ago,” Kenney’s lawyer, Steven Morelli told The Post.
Kenney, who lives on Long Island, has 7-year-old twins and a 9-year-old. He is still seeking a new coaching job.
The Trinity School had no comment about the suit.
The swanky school is the alma mater of several prominent alumni including self-absorbed writer Truman Capote, heiress Ivanka Trump, limousine leftist Katrina vanden Heuvel and once hilariously-petulant tennis star John McEnroe.
The Daily Caller’s favorite Trinity alum is poet and punk rocker Jim Carroll, an all-star varsity basketball player at the school and, in his double life, a heroin addict who prostituted himself to make enough money for his next fix.
Carroll also wrote and performed the song “People Who Died” along with The Jim Carroll Band. He died in 2009.
