WASHINGTON — Here’s looking at you, Secretary Sebelius!
For millions of Americans, the tumultuous rollout of the Affordable Care Act’s health-care website was incredibly annoying to watch, but what surely added to the annoyance of the rollout was Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s dismissive reaction to questions at a congressional hearing in October, when she infamously uttered the word “whatever.”
“Whatever” was ranked the most annoying word in a poll by the Marist College for Public Opinion.
Thirty-eight percent rated “whatever” most annoying, “like” came in second place with 22 percent and “you know” pulled 18 percent.
“Just sayin'” garnered 14 percent, “obviously” got six percent, and two percent of respondents were like, whatever … err, unsure.
Reuters reports:
“Americans are also averse to and would like to eliminate the Washington terms “shutdown” and “gridlock,” which got votes from 30 percent and 11 percent, respectively. “Fiscal cliff” got 10 percent of the vote and “sequestration” 4 percent. Four percent of respondents were unsure.”
