You no longer need to fake an illness to buy weed legally in Colorado

It’s 2014, and you just found out you’re losing your health insurance. What better way to forget your troubles than to take a “hit” of some “mary jane”?*

John Ingold, Denver Post:

In a historic swirl of commerce and cannabis, the world’s first stores licensed to sell marijuana legally to anyone 21 or older opened in Colorado on Wednesday.

From Telluride to Denver, thousands of people cheerfully stood in lines for hours to buy legal marijuana after presenting nothing more than identification…

At least 37 stores across the state were fully licensed and opened to sell marijuana to anyone 21 or over for any purpose, according to official lists and Denver Post research.

So now, scenes like this are a thing of the past in the Centennial State:

If you want my opinion — and you do, or you wouldn’t be reading this — I think what Colorado is doing is just fine. The “War on Drugs” has been a costly disaster, both in terms of money and ruined lives. If people want to smoke marijuana, they should be able to. It should be controlled, like alcohol and tobacco, and if you do something stupid while under the influence, you should be penalized accordingly. But for everybody else who can handle their high… blaze up!

I just wish guys like this weren’t the poster children for legalized weed:

*Apologies for the street lingo.

P.S. Although I can’t argue with this logic:
