A Florida man has been arrested and charged with the murder of two of his friends and the attempted murder of another.
Police say 24-year old Keith Collins Jr.’s alleged motive for shooting his friends was that he wanted to sleep in their bed.
Collins is charged with the murder of 21-year old Emanual Errol Robinson and 21-year old Latricia Brianna Johnson, as well as the attempted murder of another unnamed woman, currently in the hospital and expected to survive.
At a Monday Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office press conference, Assistant Chief Chris Butler explained that the shooting occurred when Collins and Johnson went to the apartment together and Collins told Robinson and the unnamed woman to get out of bed so that he could sleep there. When Robinson refused, Collins shot him and the woman in bed multiple times. Johnson was shot while trying to escape.
“Basically the suspect [Collins] wanted the bed they were sleeping in, wanted them to get out of that bed and go sleep in another room,” Butler told reporters.
“He wanted that bed they were sleeping in,” Butler added.
The living victim told police — who responded to the scene at 3 a.m. Saturday — she was able to survive by pretending to be dead.
According to Butler, Collins and Johnson used to date and all four were friends.
Collins was arrested at a recording studio Sunday.
This is not Collins’ first brush with the law. In 2012, he was convicted of cocaine possession.
In addition to the murder charges, Collins is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
